The International Church of Barcelona (ICB) pastored by AGWM personnel, Dan and Kathy Stump, is a witness to God’s unusual ways of touching lives. One such example is when the Stumps hosted a woman from Florida who had previously been a stranger to them. Her daughter had been hiking in Spain when she was bitten by a poisonous viper. Her mother received word that she was in danger of dying in a Barcelona hospital so she quickly flew there from Florida. Friends of a relative of hers referred her to the Stumps as a person needing help.
The woman stayed in the Stumps home for three weeks while her daughter recovered in the hospital. Many people were praying for this spiritually open mother and daughter while a number of people from ICB became involved in ministering directly to them. God will use all these seeds of the gospel and Christ’s love to work in their lives. The “snake-bit girl” was released just in time to come to the service where Dan Stump was preaching about the Apostle Paul’s landing on Malta and subsequent snake bite. Of course, Dan had her come forward and introduced everyone to a real snakebite victim. God used this unfortunate incident of being bitten by a snake as an opportunity to plant the seed of the gospel.
Other amazing things have occurred. Recently a former Hindu young woman was baptized who struggled hard with the decision. But, within a week she testified that some dramatic answers to prayer came because of her obedience. A Romanian-Hungarian gypsy was also baptized who had come to Spain to find work but found Jesus instead! What an expression of joy he had as he came up out of the baptismal water. A young man in the church, Marcos, was taking a morning walk on the beach with his Bible in hand, having a quiet time with God. Some young people called out “Is that a Bible? Come and preach to us!” So for an hour, Marcos shared the gospel and was invited to meet with them again. Amazing opportunities.
