The light of Christ’s love and salvation always overcomes the darkness.  That is what happened in Renate’s life 5 years ago.  AGWM personnel in Germany, Steve and Christina Walent, share her testimony.  She is now part of their Discovery Group and Renate related her story recently.

She grew up in East Germany during the Communist years and knew absolutely nothing about Jesus or God. God was shrouded in darkness in those days. Renate shared how her Father had an small old Bible with gold-edged pages and a velvet cover. As children, she and her sister used to take out “the book with hairs on it”, touch it and look at it. They had a certain respect for the old book, because their Father had forbidden them to color in it, but they knew nothing about what kind of a book it was.

Renate went on with her life, went through some heartache because of a broken marriage, and raised her son alone. About 5 years ago a friend invited her to come to the Oasis church shortly after it had started. Renate came and met the Savior of “the old book” she had seen as a child.  His light broke through the darkness of her Communist childhood.  When the Oasis celebrated its first baptismal service, Renate was one of those who followed the Lord in baptism.

She had always had a desire to be baptized, but before, she had no idea what it really meant.

Since then Renate lived abroad for a few years and grew in her faith, though she also went through some difficult times. Now she has moved back to Dresden and the Discovery Group meets in her apartment. She is a very positive and outgoing person who shares her faith freely.
