Reaching Around The World
Dear Friends:
I don’t know what comes to mind when someone says Switzerland, but I think about chocolate, skiing, and yodeling, to name a few. However, this was not the main thought when I was there recently and met with over 90 other believers from across Europe, many of them leaders of movements, leading pastors, and members of their presbytery in their respective movements. It was a time when we pulled away to seek God, to hear from one another, and to believe God for the future.
I cannot tell you how excited I was to see these European brothers and sisters look toward the future and believe that the Lord is going to use them mightily to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in Europe—not exclusively in Europe, but also around the world. That’s what I’d like to share for just a few moments.
Many people don’t know that the Pentecostal churches in this alliance (called the Pentecostal European Fellowship) presently send out over 1700 missionaries in over 100 countries of the world. Their goal, however, as they look toward the future is to send 3000 missionaries by the year 2020 and really focus on reaching people who have no adequate witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
As I’ve mentioned so many times before, it is true that Europe desperately needs Christ. However, how refreshing it is to know that the Great Commission and Acts 1:8 resonate in the hearts of Europeans also and that they’re not satisfied with just reaching across the street, but they understand their mandate to reach around the world.
And that’s my thought for us today—let’s continue to witness in our neighborhoods; let’s share our faith with our family, our friends; let’s believe God for our communities; but let’s never forget that we shall be witnesses in Judea, Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. We do not take that progressively but believe that the Scripture and the exegesis of the Scripture is that we are to do this at one time.
I encourage us to once again refocus, and in these desperate economic times say, Lord, we believe in Your Great Commission, we believe in being a generous people, and we want to see Your work move forward even in these difficult days.
May the Lord richly bless you.
