Dear
Friends:
"Wow-It is Expensive!"
Economic woes have been plaguing the American people
for several years now. Jobs are not increasing as quickly
as we would like, and salaries seem to be eaten up before
they are spent. This is the case even though we have
a minimal inflation rate.
Not long ago, the superintendent of the Netherlands
visited with me in the United States and spoke to missions'
leaders and churches. One of the comments that caught
everyone's attention was when he said, "Gasoline
in Holland costs about $7 per gallon!"
Can you imagine paying this kind
of price to fill your gas tank?
As I travel throughout Europe, I can also tell you from
firsthand experience that things are expensive. Why?
Over the past two years the dollar against the Euro
(the main European currency) has dropped over 30 percent.
What does this mean? It means that if a Bic pen sells
for $1 in the States, it will cost about $1.30 in Europe.
It means that if a car costs $15,000 in the States,
it will cost about $20,000 in Europe. It is expensive!
Imagine raising a family, buying
groceries, going to the doctor, eating at McDonalds,
or just going out with the family for some ice cream!
Take this further and imagine helping to start new churches,
buying building materials, conducting evangelism campaigns,
or purchasing books for Bible schools.
I think you get the picture. It
is expensive to be a missionary in Europe. Is it worth
it? Absolutely! People are being saved, filled with
the Holy Spirit, and healed because of the work of our
missionaries.
Jesus said, "I will build my church and the gates
of hell will not prevail against it." The devil
cannot prevail against it; the governments of this world
cannot prevail against it; the philosophies of this
world cannot prevail against it, and the economic systems
cannot prevail against it. The Church is being built
by the power of God and by the prayers and support of
God's people.
Yes, it is expensive, but it is
worth it all to be colaborers in the building of the
Church of Jesus Christ.
God Bless ,
Greg Mundis
