One Of The Jewels

Dear Friends:

One of the goals of Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) is to establish Bible training institutes, colleges, and seminaries around the globe. AGWM is one of the leading missions in the establishment and maintenance of Bible schools. At last report, over 800 schools are functioning in partnership with AGWM.

One of the jewels of higher educational institutions in the world is Continental Theological Seminary (CTS). It is located very near Brussels, Belgium, on the campus of an old estate. In fact, the main building used to be the stables of this estate and was reconstructed for the purposes of the seminary.

In addition to having some huge challenges, CTS has accomplished some huge milestones in its history. The first milestone is that an active, functioning governance board came into being including not only Americans, but leading European churchmen as well. Second, Americans and Europeans are sharing faculty assignments. Third, the French and English programs are continuing at the school. Fourth, in the last two years the University of Wales has validated the degrees of CTS—elevating its educational prowess on the Continent. Fifth, the master’s degree program is being used by European and American missionaries. Sixth, a Ph.D. program is in the pilot stages; and seventh, and most recently, the Belgian government has recognized CTS as a seminary. This has tremendous ramifications for the future, because it will enable students from across the European Union to receive supplementary income when they attend the school.

We rejoice in the favor of God’s grace on CTS. In the midst of challenging days, please pray that CTS will realize its missions statement:

Continental Theological Seminary, a Pentecostal Center for higher education, exists to provide theological studies in an international environment to prepare men and women for Christian ministry and challenge them to develop spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and culturally in order to serve God and their fellow man.
