The Director's Message

by Greg Mundis

The Lord is at Work

Dear Friends:

Greetings.

Even though the summer heat of August engulfs the Midwest and many parts of the United States, the work of the kingdom of God does not slow down at all.

The biennial meeting of the United States Assemblies of God General Council ended recently in Indianapolis, and a majority of the executive officers are new or in new positions. The general superintendent-elect is the former general secretary of the Assemblies of God, Dr. George Wood. The assistant general superintendent is the former U.S. Missions director, Dr. Alton Garrison. The new general secretary is a long-time pastor and Executive Presbytery member, John Palmer, and the general treasurer remains the same, James Bridges. The position of U.S. Missions director was filled by an executive presbyter from the East Coast, Reverend Zollie Smith. In many ways this is an historic choice and election since Reverend Smith has been president of the National Black Fellowship of the Assemblies of God and served as secretary of the New Jersey district. This is a wonderful step forward toward the growing recognition of the ethnic diversity in the United States. Reverend John Bueno continues in the office of executive director of World Missions.

Many people in the Assemblies of God do not understand the influence these offices and those elected to them have in their lives, but the fact is, these officers set the spiritual tone and focus and keep us on track in missions and in the Assemblies of God. We are deeply grateful for the spirituality of each of these officers, and we in the Europe Region look forward to working with them to fulfill our mission statement, which is to accelerate the spread of the gospel and model the integrity of New Testament missionaries (2 Thessalonians 3:1).

It is our hope that over the next several years we will continue the advancement of our mission statement and our focus, which is to minister by planting churches in cities, working with students on campuses, continuing and developing even more ministries to children, and working within the culturally diverse communities of Europe.

Following is one quick illustration of how the Lord is at work in Europe. We partnered with the Assemblies of God of Wales to establish a new congregation in the city of Cardiff. The fact that the great Welsh revival took place in the early 1900s has not guaranteed a continuing revival, and Wales is in desperate need of a Pentecostal and Full Gospel witness. Establishing this church in conjunction with the local church and the presbyter through the efforts of Convoy of Hope and some teams from the United States, we are pleased to announce that at an event where Welsh and U.S. church members participated, they cleaned up a portion of the city, worked in schools, took care of parks, and sponsored an event attended by 1000 people. This event included free haircuts, food, kid’s games, and a gospel presentation. From this event a church has been established which has been continuously running over 60 people for the last several weeks, and we give God the glory for this.

Thank you for your prayers and support for Europe. We appreciate it very much.

Thank you for your interest in Europe.

Sincerely,

Greg Mundis
