The Reality of the Spiritual Realm

A historic event took place in Madrid, Spain, on March 1, 2008. Four to five thousand Christians from all over the country gathered in the stadium to pray for their country. They prayed for a great revelation of Jesus Christ throughout Spain.

The spiritual history of Spain has had roller-coaster-like ups and downs. As history reveals, the Iberian Peninsula was a battleground between Christianity and Islam. However, it also served as the launching pad for Christopher Columbus, whose commission had spiritual implications beyond just searching the world for treasure.

In recent history a dictatorship squelched much of the evangelical presence in Spain, but in the last 20–30 years a growing recognition of the evangelical community has risen. This has occurred in part because of the activities of the Spanish church, particularly for us Pentecostals through the Assemblies of God of Spain. It is also due to the large numbers of Latin American evangelical and Pentecostal immigrants. Our missionaries have worked strategically over the past decade (and particularly over the past five years), cooperating closely with the Assemblies of God of Spain to plant churches under the Spirit’s anointing.

As I reflect on the day of prayer, I am reminded that the work of the Kingdom transcends the physical reality we can touch, smell, see, hear, and experience. Our work is also done in another reality, the reality of the spiritual realm. Anything of eternal value is first accomplished in the spirit realm.

My heart rejoices that the Christians of Spain have come together to pray for their country. My heart also rejoices that in a strategic partnership with the Spanish Assemblies of God, the U.S. Assemblies of God is striving to implement the work of the Spirit in the physical realm and plant the church of Jesus Christ across the country.

May the Lord richly bless you during these post-Easter days as we anticipate Pentecost.

God bless you.

Sincerely,

Greg Mundis
