Dear
Friends:
The Sacrificial $300 Offering
Dear Friends:
The December 26 tsunami that so affected
Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, and that whole
basin in Southeast Asia, is out of the headlines but
still in our news.
The Assemblies of God U.S.A. responded
generously to this need, contributing money through
Assemblies of God churches so human needs could be met.
We feel confident in our compassion ministry because
we as the Assemblies of God have a network of 250,000
churches around the world, each one a point of contact
for its community. Particularly in disaster and relief
efforts, these churches serve as stations to minister
to hurting people.
The Assemblies of God U.S.A. partners
(as we have communicated previously) with different
Pentecostal movements in Europe. The Pentecostal European
Fellowship (PEF) has over 1,600 personnel/missionaries
serving around the world. They, too, have made a monumental
effort to reach out to the victims of the tsunami. I
would particularly like to thank Scotland, The Netherlands,
the international church in Belgium, Italy, and Poland
for their partnership and generosity. These movements
have given approximately $250,000 through the Assemblies
of God and Convoy of Hope to minister to the victims
of the tsunami. They deserve a special thank you.
Pictured
in the photo with me is Randy Hurst, communications
director for Assemblies of God World Missions, who is
responsible for raising funds for relief efforts and,
in particular, for the tsunami victims. I am handing
him an offering from a church in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hercegovina
- a country where unemployment ranges between 60 and
80 percent. I was in the church this past March, which
is a small but visible witness in a hostile environment.
These dear brothers and sisters in Christ collected
an offering, and I turned that offering in to Randy
Hurst. Three hundred dollars does not seem like much
in the scope of the billions of dollars raised for the
tsunami victims. However, $300 represents an incredible
effort on behalf of this congregation and shows the
compassion that Jesus Christ raises in each of us for
a hurting world.
I publicly want to thank them for their
heart for the world and the trust they have in their
partnership with the Assemblies of God. I want to encourage
you by saying that size does not determine significance.
We thank God for our Fellowship and for our partners
in Europe.
Sincerely,
Greg Mundis
