Sometimes we are not aware of the impact of singular contacts, conversations, or incidents on the lives of people. Years later, the results may be revealed to us. Such was the case recently in the ministry of Steve Pecota, AGWM personnel in Germany.
A few months back, Steve and his wife Karen were guests at the annual Students for Christ (SFC) Winter retreat in Germany. Steve was the main speaker. In attendance was Frank Hoffmann, an alumni of the Cologne SFC group. He reminded Steve that about twelve years earlier, at a meeting of the Cologne SFC group, Steve spent the night as a guest in his apartment. After the meeting, the two shared quite honestly about discipleship, about temptation, and about following Christ with a whole heart.
At this recent retreat, Frank told Steve, "That conversation of twelve years ago was the first time I had ever heard a Christian leader open up and express how he himself struggled with obedience." Frank was deeply moved by Steve's openness and has never forgotten it. Since then, he has tried to live his life with a similar openness in his relationships.
Frank is extremely gifted and is making a difference in major firms throughout Germany. He's a talented computer programmer who started his own business and has supported SFC generously over the years. A single conversation with honest sharing impacted how one man is now living his life.
