PRAYER WEEK

August 8, 2006

Prayer WeekThe Sarajevo Evangelical Church in Bosnia-Hercegonia devoted the days of the 7th through 11th of May to prayer. During this week the church gathered daily for prayer. Approximately 25 men and women of the congregation came each day.  Pastor Sasa states, "This was truly the best prayer week we have had so far!"  In order to see a tangible spiritual change in the lives of people, there first must be a foundation of prayer.

Prayer topics included prayer for the city, the church, the youth, children, those employed in secular jobs and companies, for those who are unemployed, for the various ministries within the church, and for the ministry  projects being undertaken this summer such as the camp program.

Prayer WeekAs the prayer week concluded, the prayer group realized that the spiritual temperature or atmosphere of the church is rising.  God's spirit and presence was evident in their lives.  The group expressed their gratitude to the Lord for what He's doing in their hearts!  The time devoted to prayer is making a difference in their own individual lives and perspectives as well as raising their faith in what God will do through the church's ministry and outreaches.

Prayer WeekOne of these outreaches involves humanitarian aid.  The church has a project to help people in the community who are in need. Beneficiaries of the project are mainly single mothers and young married couples.   Nintey-five percent of these people are unemployed and do not receive any other aid. Thirty-two households have been helped thus far.

Physical provision is not the only aim.   Volunteers in this project are committed to talking with the people, listening to their problems and struggles, and building relationship with them.  Most importantly though, volunteers are committed to praying for each person, hoping to see them won to the Lord. Each beneficiary has the opportunity of hearing the truth of the Gospel, and are being aggressively prayed for. Ultimately, each person will be asked to make a personal decision for salvation. So far, 8 of the 32 people have given their lives to the Lord, praying a prayer of confessing the Lord as their savior.
