One of the pillars of the Assemblies of God World Missions is 'Training'. Missionary Personnel, Martin and Catherine Rodgers are training future ministry leaders at Mattersey Hall, the Assemblies of God Bible College in England. It is vital for ministry leaders today to be competent in current technology in order to effectively communicate the Gospel to this generation. The Rodgers teach video production and performing arts and are developing the media studies department at the college.
Martin's video students are working on video essays and learning how to light and mic an interview. There is no substitute for hands-on experience, so whenever possible, Martin always makes sure to have a student (or two!) when he does a video shoot for the college.
Catherine's Performing Arts class presented their drama piece, Stand and Surrender, in a morning chapel presentation as part of a special college-wide prayer emphasis day. The script was the result of a systematic creative process learned in class, with each student contributing an element to the piece. They incorporated music, movement, spoken word and pre-recorded narration! It was great to watch them develop ideas so that in the end they had a powerful piece describing different ways of surrendering our lives and situations to God.
