This past summer, a team from Broken Arrow Assembly of God church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in conjunction with Save Europe's Children went to Dublin, Ireland to tell kids that Jesus is indeed their Super Hero. The team went to help St. Mark's church with their annual Kids Week. St. Mark's has held this event annually for several years to reach the kids that live in lower income housing right behind the church. St. Mark's is located in the city center of Dublin. The church is involved with a variety of community outreaches including an after school program.
The Oklahoma team along with the youth group of St. Mark's worked tirelessly to provide this safe and kid-friendly week to the children living in the local community who do not attend the church. The St. Mark's team included one young man who had attended the Kids Week himself as a child. He was later a part of the after school program and has now begun attending the youth club which meets on Friday nights. He was delighted to be involved with the Kids Week as a worker. It was exciting to results such as this of Kids Weeks of years past.
The team introduced a new superhero each day, focusing on the lives of Joseph, Esther, David and Mary from the Bible. Each day there was a visit from the 'Crocodile Hunter' who was hunting for the memory verse and taught a new 'Big Idea'every day. Over 100 kids were in attendance each day. On the last day their parents were invited to come for a special event to see their kids perform a song and dance. At that service, the last and final hero, Jesus, was introduced. At the end of the evening, one young mother invited Jesus into her life.
The Oklahoma and St. Mark's church team presented a wonderful week of fun, games, crafts, Bible lessons, memory verses, and Super Heroes. Their goal is that these efforts will produce lasting results in the lives of the children who participated.
