CONCERT IN REUS

A gospel choir from Central Church in Charlotte, NC performed in concert in Reus, Spain. This evangelistic endeavor was held in the Olympic Pavilion, a facility built for the 1992 Olympics of Barcelona. The choir of about 100 singers plus musicians presented what was the first-ever Christian event of this size held in Reus. Approximately 10 small evangelical churches of the area worked together to supply volunteers to help make this event successful.

Concert

This incredibly talented group gave a fantastic performance. The special presence of the Lord was evident upon them as they sang. About 3,000 people showed up for the concert. They were a mix of Spaniards and immigrants. This event had been billed as a cultural event. In fact, when the city officials heard that the evangelical church was associated with the concert, all television, radio and newspaper ads were denied. If the event was billed as cultural, it would be accepted, but having spiritual connections or overtones, the ads were denied.

A few people left the Pavilion when they heard that the evangelical churches were involved and a few more left the first time Jesus Christ was mentioned. However, the majority of the crowd seemed well-pleased with the choir. Most of the gospel music was presented in English with a couple of solos in Spanish. At the end of the performance most of the crowd was on their feet applauding loudly. In fact, they asked for and received an additional song as an encore.

Admission was free and people were asked to buy DVDs of the concert and CDs of the choir with the proceeds going to orphaned children in the Third world. People filled out forms which asked for their name and address which could be used later for follow-up. The gospel message had been clearly presented and the hope is that hearts and lives will be open to accepting Christ as the follow-up visits are made.
