The story of Huang is an incredible testimony of God's timing and leading in a student's life. In the spring of 2007, one of the Chinese girls in our Chi Alpha campus ministries group in Leiden,
Netherlands invited her friend Huang to a meeting. I didn't know
much about him. I noticed that when we were worshipping, he was watching curiously and intently. That evening I spoke a very simple gospel message, realizing that there was the possibility of some unbelievers with us.
At the end of the meeting, we broke up into small men and women groups. The group had outgrown our house so we men decided to meet in the storage room downstairs. About 6 of us guys sat in folding chairs in a small circle. Each one began to share their needs for prayer and when it was Huang's turn, he said that he was really searching for the truth. He said that his father had became a Christian a few months before and that he had seen a major change in him. He once was a hard man, but now he was gentle and kind.
Huang went on to share about what it would mean to leave his native, non-Christian culture and follow Christ. He was very concerned about family rejection and being ostracized from his society. The rest of the guys shared their care for him and prayed for him. It was a tremendous demonstration of the love of Christ right there. I was amazed that the love of God for Huang knew no boundaries, and that this was his appointment with God, in the basement of our house, in the middle of our bikes, suitcases and leftover boxes.
What happened next really surprised all of us. We went upstairs to have some snacks and coffee (a must for every event in the Netherlands). Huang pulled me and another student aside and said, "I am not quite sure what is happening, but I have never felt so loved as I have tonight. I feel so comfortable. If this is what being a Christian is then I might be one some day."
Huang left that night with a huge smile on his face and we trusted that in God's time, he would come to Christ. Later that week we received the miraculous report from Huang's friend who had invited him to the Chi Alpha meeting, that he accepted Christ at a Chinese church just a couple days after his visit in our home.
